India is a country that likes to compare itself to China in everything, from urban prosperity to weapons and equipment. Recently, India has once again set its sights on Chinese fighter jets, but this time there is no comparison, it is analysis. According to a report by Southern Daily on October 7th, compared to the J-20 fighter jet, India is actually more afraid of another Chinese fighter jet, the J-31 stealth fighter jet (code name: FC-31), which was developed by Shenyang Aircraft Manufacturing Plant and was once claimed to be the same as the J-20.

In fact, after the announcement of the J-31, its presence was rarely seen at some domestic aviation exhibitions in China, as the Chinese Air Force has not yet officially numbered the model. It seems that India's attention to Chinese fighter jets is relatively high. The reason why the J-31 is considered more terrifying than the J-20 is mainly due to its two major advantages, which have left the Indian side almost helpless.

On the one hand, it is because although the J-31 fighter jet is also a stealth fighter jet, its performance is not as strong as the J-20. After all, the J-31 fighter jet is only a lightweight and medium-sized fighter jet with dual engines. However, the reduced version also has its advantages. For example, the cost of the J-31 fighter jet is definitely much cheaper than that of the J-20 fighter jet, and the speed and quantity of mass production will be much faster. Once installed, it can quickly improve combat effectiveness.

At that time, China will not only have a very high-end J-20 fighter jet, but also a larger number of J-31 fighter jets. Although the latter may not have the same performance as the J-20, its widespread use, low price, and large quantity are enough for China to further expand its air superiority over India.

On the other hand, unlike the J-20 aimed at the F-22 fighter jet, the J-20 will never be exported, while the J-31 has export attributes. China may sell the J-31 fighter jet to its loyal ally Pakistan after it is installed, which will put India in a difficult situation of being sandwiched by stealth fighter jets from China and Pakistan.

There are also many voices in New Delhi who agree with this analysis, believing that although the J-20 fighter jet is powerful, it is mainly used to deal with the United States. As long as India does not escalate the situation, it is unlikely that China will send J-20 fighter jets to deal with itself, as this will expose the performance of the J-20 fighter jet. But once the Chinese side acquires the J-31 fighter jet, it will be a powerful fighter jet more suitable for countering India than the J-20, which can effectively avoid the situation of "killing chickens with a cow's knife". Once there is friction between China and India, the most likely to appear on the China India border is not the J-20, but the J-31 fighter jet.

It cannot be denied that the statements of Indian media also have some truth, but it should be pointed out that the J-31 fighter jet is highly likely to develop in the sea. The reason for saying this is mainly because at the recently concluded Zhuhai Air Show, Sun Cong, the chief designer of the J-31, told everyone that the new generation of carrier based aircraft will be introduced to everyone within the year. According to external speculation, the J-31 fighter jet will launch a carrier based version, or the J-31 fighter jet that will make a comeback after its maiden flight is likely to be a carrier based stealth aircraft.

Of course, if the J-31 can become a carrier based aircraft, then it can certainly be used as a stealth fighter taking off from land. Just like the F-35 stealth fighter, it has three versions: A, B, and C. The A version is a land-based stealth fighter, the B version is a vertical takeoff stealth fighter used by aircraft carriers, and the C version is said to be a stealth fighter developed for special operations.

Therefore, it is highly likely that multiple versions of the J-31 fighter jet will be launched in the future, including land-based and sea based models. Sea based models are mainly used by Chinese aircraft carriers, especially those equipped with electromagnetic catapults such as the 003 and its successors. The land-based J-31 fighter jet will mainly serve as a support fighter for the J-20 fighter jet, achieving high and low configuration.

Therefore, India does need to worry about this fighter jet in the future. Once China successfully installs it, India will not only face the danger of "double-sided printing" between China and Pakistan, but also the threat of the J-31 fighter jet from the sea, which is called "three sided printing". For India, which has just started developing its own stealth fighter jet, this problem cannot be solved by "gusts of wind".
