On November 11, 1949, the leadership of the Air Force was established in Beijing, with Liu Yalou as commander and Xiao Hua as political commissar. The Air Force officially became a branch of our military.
General Liu Yalou, who founded the country, made great contributions to the birth of New China. His presence can be seen in many battles during the Land Revolution, various anti encirclement campaigns in the Central Soviet Area, the Anti Japanese War, the Liaoshen Campaign and the Pingjin Campaign during the Liberation period, as well as in the later Korean War.
On November 11, 1949, the Central Military Commission called all military regions and field armies: on the basis of the 14th Corps of the Fourth Field Army, the Air Force Headquarters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army has now been announced to be established, and the aviation bureau of the former Military Commission has been cancelled immediately. Its personnel and operations will be transferred to the Air Force Command. This day later became the anniversary of the establishment of the People's Air Force.
